Church isn't just a place we go. It's something we do.
Everything that we have and all that we are is gift from a loving God. What we do with that gift is our response in ministry, or stewardship! Stewardship is the grateful response of a Christian disciple who recognizes and receives God’s gifts and shares these gifts in love of God and neighbor.
How do we know how God is calling us to respond? Our first priority is spending time in prayer. As we deepen our relationship with God through the habit of daily prayer, we become more adept at understanding God's will in our lives. By discovering our gifts and talents we identify how God is calling each of us to a unique purpose. These gifts are to be shared with others. A steward’s personal response as a disciple is to share what one has received with a generous, grateful and loving heart.
Stewardship always starts with a personal relationship with our Lord. Stewardship is our response to our call to discipleship, which was given to us in baptism. Following Christ as a disciple requires a personal response that can transform us and our entire parish.
“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” - 1 Peter 4:10
Stewardship is founded on Christ’s teaching that all that we are and all that we have are gifts from God the Father.
As stewards of our treasure we reflect upon our financial resources and prayerfully decide to give a generous, proportionate, and sacrificial gift for the ministry of the parish, the diocese and other charities.
Parishioners in the Diocese of Wichita strive to commit 8% of their income to the parish and 2% to other charities. If this goal cannot be realized now, it is encouraged to begin at some percentage and to prayerfully reexamine it each year.
