Faith Formation

Learn Morefaithformation

Faith formation is an integral part of the life of a Christian.  We are formed in the life and teachings of Jesus so that we may become more attentive to the needs of the world; going beyond ourselves and living the Gospel in our homes and communities.  This formation takes many shapes throughout the seasons of our lives, and we as a parish are committed to creating a sort of "training ground" so that our community may be constnatly sent out into the world, equipped and intentional in our love for others.  Below you will find a sampling of the programs offered at St. John the Evangelist, and we encourage you to check out those pages for information about the events and special programs those ministries offer.

"Being a disciple is not just something else to do, alongside many other things suitable for

Christians, it is a total way of life and requires continuing conversion."

- USCCB's Stewardship a Disciples Response

Such formation is a formidable task, involving the education of the mind and conversion of the heart. Ongoing education is important if we are to grow in our lives as disciples. Every parish organization has a role to play in nurturing the faith formation of the parishioners. It is in this collective parish effort and the grace of God at work through our sincere efforts that faith formation thrives.

Adult Faith

There are many opportunities for adults here at St. John the Evangelist to grow in their faith. Join the Sunday morning Adult Faith Formation class, come on Wednesday nights to dive into the Gospel readings with Lectio Divina, or join a seasonal book study!

Rite of Christian

Initiation of Adults

Each year we welcome new adults in to the Catholic Church. RCIA classes take place on Sunday mornings. These adults may be wishing to enter the Catholic faith or just wish to revisit the basic teachings of the faith.

High School Youth

Ministry (CYM)

High School CYM is a ministry for and from our young people. The goal of youth ministry is to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, and to draw them to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.

Middle School Youth

Middle School youth ministry is designed to minister to those in 6th-8th grades. It exists to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

6 - 12 Religious

On Wednesday evenings during the school year our 6th - 12th grade students meet to share a meal, gather for class, and attend Mass together. Middle School classes are grade specific while High School classes are combined 9th - 12th.

K - 5 Religious

Every Sunday morning during the school year our Kindergarten - 5th grade students meet for Religious Education classes. Each grade conveys the beauty and truth of different aspects of our Catholic faith in a clear and engaging way.

Catechesis of the

Good Shepherd

CGS is an approach to the religious formation of children rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and Montessori principles. Children gather in an "atrium," prepared for them with materials used to help them absorb the most essential proclamations of the faith.

Sunday Nursery

Our faith formation programs are able to be so robust due in large part to the Nursery. Every Sunday morning that there are classes the nursery is open to children 4 y.o. and younger. Adults and young adults work together to create a welcoming environment for all of the children in the nursery.

Totus Tuus

Totus Tuus is a week-long summer Catholic youth program dedicated to promoting the Faith by evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness, Eucharistic worship and sharing the Gospel with youth in 1st-12th grades.

Baptism Preparation

Parents presenting their child for Baptism promise to faithfully raise their child in the Catholic faith, and to be an example of Christian living for their child. We are happy to support your family during this special time of preparation for the Baptism of your child.

Marriage Preparation

Marriage is a sacred commitment, a true vocation in Christ. Our goal is the same as yours: to affirm you in your intentions to marry and to help you make your wedding day and married lives a reflection of God's presence alive in our faith community.
